Halloween is one of the most exciting holidays of the year for many children as well as fun-loving adults. One of the most fun things for young and old is to decorate your home for Halloween. You can do this easily, by letting your imagination lead the way and a good deal can be created within a limited budget, if needed. Pay close attention to how you will decorate the final Halloween.
When you have kids, you can use all of our class Halloween projects. You can simply hang them up or even make a Halloween tree, similar to a Christmas or Easter tree. You can use construction paper to make lanterns, bats, cats, witches, spiders, and other awesome decorations to put around the house. Once they’ve made their paper ornaments, use masking tape and stingers to secure them for hanging.
Lighting is essential to setting the Halloween atmosphere. You can use candles and lanterns, however, be sure to practice fire safety. You can use some plastic Christmas candles, either with orange bulbs or other colored lights, and you can always cover the bottom with construction paper or aluminum foil or paint it. The strategically placed black lights give off an eerie feel.
Making a Halloween doll is simple and fun, using some old clothes, a hat and some stuffing. Put the doll inside or out for trick-or-treating for kids to see, they love to peek at these Halloween decorations. You may also think of some cobwebs and spiders to hang around in your home as well during Halloween.
When decorating your yard for Halloween, you might want to consider allowing grass to grow which will add to the abandoned house look, then put together some old looking wooden planks write some spooky names on them and then put them around the yard as grave markers. As you prepare the graves, you may want to put a little dirt in there as well to give it more of an appearance of being a grave, some people may consider using fertilizer to do this, however, fertilizer will burn the lawn underneath when there is more than the lawn actually needs.
Another interesting idea, if you have enough space in the yard, is to plant a corn maze, when the time is right, and then let the corn stand in its place during Halloween, when the corn should really be starting to dry, giving a very spooky appearance, not to mention the rustle of dried corn stalks when the wind blows adds those extra creepy sounds while traveling through the corn maze. If you decide to plant a corn maze for use during Halloween, you might also consider planting some well-dressed individuals to hide inside the maze, to scare away some of the people traveling through the maze. However, you may want to try to be very intimidating when entertaining children and the elderly, so as not to upset anyone badly.
Another great idea for decorating your yard for Halloween is to set up a bonfire and maybe a doll or two. Imagine throwing Freddy Krueger into a fire, or maybe Jason or Michael. It’s all fun and this is the season! Enjoy getting ready for the ultimate Halloween.
